Pornography - The sin of the eyes and heart

Simply put, Pornography is a very cruel master. Whatever has power over you is your master. It destroys your time, your energy, and it ruins real relationships that were instead by God to satisfy and be holy. The only sexual relationship approved by God is in marriage between 1 man and 1 woman. Anything outside of this is sin!

Jesus set the standard in Mathew 5:27 28. You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ 28  But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Adultery is one of the 10 commandments that we are commanded not to break.

So if we go to the book of Romans it is so easy to see why we need a savior.

“There is no one righteous, not even one. 11 There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” 13 “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.”  “The venom of vipers is on their lips.” 14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” 15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 ruin and misery lie in their wake, 17 and the way of peace they have not known.” 18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Sound like anyone you know? If you’re honest, it sounds like you and me.

So looking at pornography is a choice like eating food – good or bad for you, it is your choice. The problem is once you get hooked it has the power of or greater than heroin according to professionals that study brain chemistry. It is an incredibly powerful addiction. And without the help of God, a support system around you, your honesty and 100% sincerity to give it, and its pleasure, shame and pain to the Lord your savior, you will not escape!

What are you willing to do to get clean? The answer must be everything! Are you willing to give up your pride when you share this sin, your freedom to choose what you view and listen to, and your pleasure? Many use porn to escape bad feelings, the many stresses of life, loneliness, and the list and combinations go on. But at the end of the day no matter what your reason or excuse, you are sinning against God and if married, against your spouse and children if you have been blessed with them. You are now in a lifelong fight to stay clean, to be pure and righteous before God and man. But the battle can be won no matter how many times you have fallen,. The fight is worth fighting!

I have talked to men in their 70s that still struggle, to females that have fallen to its power. No one is safe from this cruel master. So, what are you willing to do to give it up? Get rid of your TV? Have a filter and accountability partner on and for your computer? Are you willing to give it 100% to God and do the work to escape, so you can stand before God without this great burden on your back? Because if you allow just a few weeds to grow in the garden of your mind you will fall again, just an occasional image you linger too long looking at, or that woman that works at the bank (bank online or get a new bank). Whatever your trigger is, it has to be removed so you can heal and win this battle, and it just may be the toughest thing you have ever overcome. But with God’s help, you can have victory. If you fall get right back to fighting – it’s not over. If you made a bad choice or had a dream, it will fade. Keep reading God’s word and remembering that this sin will separate you from him. It will push him away. Remember our body is the temple of God! Jesus did not die on the cross so you can look at nude girls, he died to set you free and it’s time you believed His Holy word and lived that way. It’s not easy but after years or decades of this sin how great would you feel when you can say to another, “I have been clean for a year now” and have the ability to help another get set free? Imagine your life without it. It is possible, so stop believing the lie from the pit of hell that it can’t be done, for with Christ all things are possible.

Step 1: It is the realization that this is a big deal and you are sinning against God and that the wages of sin is death.  Romans 6:23

Step 2: Ask God for forgiveness for this sin and to purify you from all unrighteousness in your life. Ask God to put good and faithful people around you to give council and support as you fight this battle.

Step 3: Confess the sin to a mature person in Christ whom you trust. Bring the sin out of the darkness and into the light. Sin begins to be destroyed in the light and lose its power over you once you are not alone. Ever heard the saying there is strength in numbers?

Step 4: Do you need to confess and apologize to a spouse? Do it. They might already know.

Step 5: Be in the word of God daily reading and learning and being filled with His word.

Step 6: God heals and delivers people at different rates of speed. Maybe He will wash you clean immediately. More than likely you will have to do the hard work to repair what you have broken. Even if you have been exposed as a child to porn, what are you doing now as an adult?

Step 7: You made also need professional help. Google Every Man’s Battle for more help.

You will reap what you sow. Sow seeds of impurity and you will reap a large harvest of shame, broken relationships, poor physical health, lack of confidence, and so on.

Sow seeds of purity and reap God’s favor. This message is woven throughout the Old Testament and is a clear message that a price is always paid for sexual sin. When King David sinned and took Bathsheba God said the sword will never depart from your house. His sons were killed and his life was ruined. So, sow seeds of righteousness and see that you not only don’t have to pay the price for bad choices that can last a lifetime but you will align yourself to be blessed for your faithfulness. Start today. Not one more moment should pass until you begin waging a holy war against the pure evil of pornography. If God is for you, who can stand against you?  Romans 8:31
